How to specify high‑performance sofa fabrics.
Fabric selection shapes comfort, appearance, durability and customer perception. A reliable specification turns subjective preferences into measurable requirements that production and quality teams can control.
Start with the real application.
A family sofa, serviced apartment lounge and high-traffic hotel lobby do not need the same textile. Define frequency of use, likely spills, cleaning method, sunlight exposure, climate and expected service life before comparing swatches.
Translate performance into measurable criteria.
Abrasion and pilling
Review abrasion alongside yarn structure and intended use. Pilling needs a separate standard because a high abrasion result does not guarantee a clean surface over time.
Colorfastness and cleanability
Confirm resistance to rubbing, cleaning and light, then verify that coatings, backings and color remain stable under the selected care method.
Control what a test report cannot capture.
Hand-feel, visual texture, shade consistency, seam behavior and tailoring quality still require physical review. Approve a representative production cutting and retain signed shade references by batch.
